In short, eyes define contour of eyes and face, contributes to completeness of face and they are very important for esthetic aspects. Eyebrows contribute our gestures, which are an important part of personal communication. Some feelings can be expressed just by eyebrow, such that, eyebrows play an essential role of individual’s persuasion and influence.
Eyebrows, which are such important, may be partially or totally lost as a result of burns, injuries and some diseases. Moreover eyebrows are often reshaped for fashion. For this purpose they are plucked frequently and after a while this damages eyebrows.
HOW IT IS PERFORMED?
Eyebrow transplantation is an effective solution for eyebrows that are lost due to various diseases, injuries or wrong fashion applications. This operation consists of transplantation (transfer) of nape hair, which is resistant to loss, to eyebrow region. In other words, similar to hair transplantation, eyebrow transplantation is plantation of micrografts (single hair follicles) taken from nape region to vacant region on eyebrow. During transplantation new shape of the eyebrow remain in anatomical boundaries but patient desires are also considered.
Most important aspect of eyebrow transplantation is natural look. Eyebrow should start in alignment of inner eye line and line towards a few mm.s away from eyelid end. New eyebrow is shaped as like as patient desire provided that is in defined anatomical boundaries. Transplanted hair follicles taken from the nape should be placed in certain angles on eyebrow. Eyebrow bristles are in there different shapes and angles in three different regions of eye. Since hair protrudes from scalp in 45degrees angle, eyebrows protrude in 10-15 degrees angle. Additionally eyebrow bristles point slightly upwards in beginning, then continues horizontal in middle and point slightly downwards at the end.
IS IT SIMILAR TO HAIR TRANSPLANTATION?
Eyebrow transplantation has same basis like FUE hair transplantation. It last 2 hours and conducted under local anesthesia. Patients are discharged immediately after operation. Pin size scabs are observed on plantation are for a week. Patients generally continue their work and social life. Patients should avoid swimming, sauna, solarium, hammam, excessive sun and heavy exercise. Transplanted hair follicles protrude in 3 months and after 7-8 months they get their shape. In first year they grow fast similar to hair in their origin. Eyebrows need to be reshaped every two weeks in this period. After a year hair follicles gain eyebrow characteristics and they grow more slowly.
