Breast lifting operations are called mastopexy in medical literature. Every woman wants to have upright and plump breasts. Breast tissue is one of the most sensitive tissues. However, they lose their contour and stiffness over time due to some factor such as the loss of elasticity of the body skin, gravity, extreme and sudden weight loss, deformities result from postpartum and breastfeeding. Sometimes this situation occurs due to the genetic features. In fact, due to congenital causes breast size and contour can be different from each other’s as well as one breast may be heavier than the other.
Breast is contoured and tightened by breast lift surgery (mastopexy), which is performed to eliminate the all these aesthetic problems. Breast lift surgery does not change in breast size. If the plumper breast look is desired, breast augmentation should be considered along with mastopexy. In the opposite case, if small breasts are desired, breast reduction surgery should be done at the same time.
How is it done?
Nowadays, mastopexy is carried out by different incision and operation techniques. The method used is determined according to the patient's breast property. These include; the volume of breast and contour, position and the size of the nipple, the degree of sagging of the breast, how much skin redundancy is present and the degree of looseness and elasticity of the skin.
Breast tissue is lifted after the incisions in order to form the breast contour and shape. Then, nipple and surrounding is moved higher as in youth. If the nipple is expanded, it is reduced to the standard size. The loose skin is used to form a firmer breast.
After the operation
Postoperative recovery is usually rapid. Approximately 5 days after the operation, the patient returns to normal life, he/she can travel and work. He/she can walk without getting tired at day 7 and 10. Moderate exercise takes place in week 4.
