Liposuction is defined suction of excess body fat gathered in certain regions with the help of vacuum and fine cannulas. Using this method body is given more proportional appearance by removing fat from body regions where more fat is deposited than other regions. This method is generally applied to tummy, buttocks, thighs, knees, belly, back, ankle, arms and jowl. However it should be kept in mind that this is not an effective weight loss method.
Ideal Candidates
Operation gives best results on people at normal weight or slightly overweight who are disturbed by appearance of local fat accumulation on certain regions.
Because of hormonal or inherent differences, Fat is deposited on different regions of men and women body. This brings increasing fat volume and undesirable appearance. It is expected to reduce this volume by diet or exercise. But ıt is difficult to change appearance of fat tissues around buttocks, tummy and thighs of women and belly of men despite efforts. Liposuction is the sole remaining alternative to get rid of fat tissue on these regions. Despite this fact it should be emphasized that liposuction is not a weight loss method. Because, this method is for removing fat deposit which disturbs general body contour.
Liposuction is applied to fat deposits in jowl, neck, arms, breast, knees and thighs.
When excess fat tissue is removed by liposuction there occurs excess skin on operation region. Since skin elasticity is lost, removal of this excess skin by excision (thigh or buttock lift) is preferred. Consequently, liposuction is the only method effective against cellulitis.
Procedure
If application region is limited local anesthesia together with sedation is sufficient for operation. However for large regions general anesthesia is required.
Disturbing extra fatty regions are marked while patient is standing. After anesthesia, a special liquid is administered on these regions. Two incisions in 1cm length are made on each region according to previous marks. A special cannula with holes at top is inserted into fat tissue from these incisions. Negative pressure unit is attached to cannula and by effect of negative pressure fat is sucked in desired amount.
After operation incisions are sealed with suture. A special binding is put on to reduce bleeding and leaking and also prevent edema occurrence in operation region.
Post-Operation
- Patient who received general anesthesia are hospitalized for 4 hour and then discharged.
- Early standing and movement is important for fast and proper recovery.
- Pains are generally controlled by common oral painkillers.
- Depending on the size of operation region and amount of removed fat patients can start work in 3-7 days after operation. However they should wait at least 3-4 weeks for sexual intercourse and intensive exercise.
- There may be swallowing or bruises on operation are. They decrease in 2-3 weeks but it takes 4-6 months for them to totally disappear.
- Binding should be worn for 3-4 week without intervals to provide faster edema decrease and better reshaping.
